This is one of two appeals conducted each year by the Society, to ask our members and friends for contributions related to Capital Improvement work at the Shipwreck Museum site, Whitefish Point Light Station, Whitefish Point, Michigan. The site has been on the National Register of Historic Sites since 1973.

Since opening on May 1, we can report that we have successfully began restoration projects at Whitefish Point as previously planned. Recently completed is the rebuilding of our Barrier-Free Access Observation Deck to the shoreline of Lake Superior. Soon, the repainting of the 1923 CG Crews Quarters building, along with necessary exterior restoration and repair will begin.

Our underwater research in 2024 resulted in the discovery of the Western Reserve, one of these most well-known Lake Superior Shipwrecks. To assist with this research, we are working with Deep Ocean Engineering f or a brand-new, highly advanced ROV that might be put into use this summer! There are many more wrecks to be discovered, but maintaining our famous – and well appreciated – 176-year old Light Station calls us to solicit funds in a manner appropriate for what we do. Currently, we will be applying 2025 contributions to:

• Construction of the 2nd Assistant Keepers Building
• Human Use/Natural Resource Management Plan
• Operations Support/Memorial Donations
